Şanlıurfa, which is the ninth most populous city in Turkey in terms of population density, is located in Southeastern Region of Turkey. The city is bounded by Mardin to the east, Gaziantep to the west, Adıyaman to the northwest, Diyarbakır to the northeast. The city has continental climate with hot and dry summers, and rainy and mild winters.
