Edirne

Edirne is located in the Marmara Region, in northwestern Turkey. The city is surrounded by the Istanca Mountains in the north and mountains, plateaus and Meric Delta in the south. The Ergene Basin is also located in the center of the region. The city is bounded by the Aegean Sea and Çanakkale to the south, Bulgaria to the north, Greece to the west, Tekirdağ and Kırklareli to the east. Meriç River is the border between Greece and Turkey. The Tundzha River, the Arda River and the Ergene River are also situated in Edirne. 12 kilometers of the Tunca River, with a total length of 56 kilometers, forms the border with Bulgaria.Edirne has a continental climate with long and cold winters and hot summers. The highest amount of rainfall is in spring. While the months with the highest temperature are July and August, the coldest period is January and February.

Edirne has its own local delicacies. The prominent of these can be listed as pan-fried liver, mutancana (stew lamb with dried fruit), mamzana (salad made of grilled vegetables), meatballs with rice dipped in egg batter and fried, meatball, satır köfte (meatballs made of fine-chopped meat), lamb casserole with yogurt, stew chicken with onion, zirva (chicken or lamb stew with dried fruit), wrapped lamb liver burger, kabak kalye (a dish made of lamb and zucchini), spinach hash browns, crepe ( local thin pancake), kandilli mantı (roasted ravioli served with chicken), zerde (pudding made of rice and saffron), halva with almonds, cevizli oturtma (walnut filled dessert), baklawa with almonds.
