25.08.2024 03:12
Historical Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai, which promises an aesthetic elegance to those who see it in Edirne, is one of the buildings of historical importance that make up the city's skyline. It was built between 1560-1561 by Rüstem Pasha, who served as a state official during the time of Ottoman Sultan Suleyman The Magnificent. Another aspect that makes the caravanserai special is the fact that Sinan, the architect who gave us Selimiye Mosque as a gift, is the architect of this building.
Rustem Pasha Caravanserai, which has a monumental originality, has walls built with cut stones and bricks in the foreground. This caravanserai has a plan resembling an inn with its rectangular courtyard. It consists of rooms with two floors. The first floor and second floor have a total of 73 rooms respectively. There are also 5 more rooms overlooking the courtyard. In addition, there are places used for needs such as stables, kitchens and toilets on the lower floor of the building and rooms on the upper level. In addition, the stairs to the floors add value to the visual ambience and the decorations in the rooms are quite striking. As an important detail, there is also a stove in each room.
Restored in the early 1970s, the building was converted into a hotel and today serves tourism in Edirne as a hotel. There are also facilities such as free Wifi, air conditioning, free breakfast. The density of historical items in interior decoration does not escape attention.
