Aksaray Underground Bazaar in Fatih, one of the most populous districts of Istanbul, was put into service in 1973. The bazaar, which at that time became the first and the biggest shopping center in the Balkans and in entire Istanbul, unfortunately remained closed until 1980 after the great fire that took place in 1975. Aksaray Underground Bazaar, which has undergone a major repair and restoration during this period, has been serving uninterruptedly since then.
Aksaray Underground Bazaar, which has now became the property of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is operated by the board of directors authorized by the Municipality and elected by the bazaar tradesmen.
It is possible to find almost anything you are looking for in Aksaray Underground Bazaar, where perfumery, jewelry, textile, sports equipment, food and many other products are sold. There are two cafes for those who want to have a rest while shopping in the bazaar, where exactly 125 stores serve. If you want to explore the historical fabric of Istanbul and experience this atmosphere while shopping, one of the first places to go is Aksaray Underground Bazaar.
