Özkonak Underground City, located in The Avanos region of Nevşehir, is reaching the present day from the 400s B.C. . The tuff structure of the region suitable for caring and shaping allowed the shelter and protection of humanity dating back to the late Hittite period, according to archaeologists. The housing process, which began with local principalities called 'Tabal' during the late Hittite period, dates back to the Persians and the Roman Empire. It is rumored that Zeus's sanctuary is here. Özkonak Underground City has a different structure than other underground cities in Cappadocia, where civilizations are hidden under the ground. The underground city, which also allows the storage of supplies with its temperature-free structure and moisture-free feature; it's a four-storey structure. Although long and narrow holes that provide inter-cat communication are in many underground cities, these are different! Examples of these holes, which are too small and narrow to the eye, are not found in any other underground city. In fact, it is equivalent to the mystery of the shade structure of the pyramids in Egypt that preserve the air! Another difference of Özkonak Underground City is that the rocks, which were carried from the outside to protect the entrance tunnels from attack, and which weigh tons of weight, are located in the door. In accordance with this defense measure, the restructuring was built. The first floor of Özkonak Underground City, built like an apartment building, is set in a barn style for easy entry of animals. As you descend on the lower floors, there are a home-like lounge and rooms. In addition, there are 8 wells, 3 ventilations, 4 tombs and places for pitcher and water tanks. It's worth warning those who are claustrophobia for the last floor of the underground city, which can be reached by a narrow tunnel that only one person can move forward, originally designed as a prison. As hard as you feel you're breathing, there's also the kind of mystery that makes you question life.
