Dereyamanlı Church
14.07.2024 00:56
Dereyamanlı Church, one of the oldest churches in Cappadocia region, has been defying time since the end of the 4th century.
Christians in Nevsehir, who played a major role in the spread of the religion of Christianity to Anatolia, fled the persecution of The Pagan Roman Emperor Constantine I, creating a new area of life and belief here. The Christian people, who go on the path of providing integrity by consolidating the natural beauty of the city with churches, give Nevşehir its historical monuments today.
The people who had to migrate to cappadocia region in 64 BC and built countless churches here take a deep breath as Constantine I moved to the religion of Christianity just before his death. A decent living space is created with villages, palaces and churches built using the art of decoration without disturbing the fabric of the city. The construction of Dereyamanlı Church dates back to the 4th century.
Dereyamanlı Church amazes those who see it with its walls, where hand-embroidered geometric motifs and biblical excerpts are depicted in red paint. One of the structures that are 'irreversible without sight' for all guests of the city, the church sheds light on both Christianity and human history.
