Karapınar Sultan Selim Mosque and Complex, whose architect is thought to be Great Mimar Sinan Aga and breathtaking at the glory of simplicity, is one of the points frequented by many tourists with its beauty that has survived from the 1500s to the present day.
We were in the Ottoman Empire when Suleiman the Magnificent was ruler. In the mid-1500s, Sultan Suleiman and his son Selim built a religious structure in Konya. Although the mosque, which has been completed, is popularly referred to as Cami-i Cedid or Cami-i Sharif-i Sultan Suleiman, it continues to be remembered today under the name Karapınar Sultan Selim Mosque and Complex. Although most historians believe that this structure is a built in Selim II period but as a result of recent investigations, the mosque is proven by the documents commissioned by Kanuni.
In fact, there is no conclusive proof of the architect but it is tought to belongs to Mimar Sinan when his style and history are examined. Fatih Mosque, Sahabeddin Uzluk Mosque and Hagia Sophia are a kind of combination of plans; as grand and also simple... As of the 16th century, new structures have been added to Karapınar Sultan Selim Mosque and Complex, one of the rarest works of the classical Ottoman architectural period and Mimar Sinan. Time passes and two madrasas, a small-scale astronomy research and a library are added around the mosque. After all these additions, the mosque, which has become a complex, is still open for worship today.
With the art of Muqarnas embellishment on it, which consists of geometric shapes, offers a visual feast to its visitors, and meets its explorers with rich marble craftsmanship. Karapınar Sultan Selim Mosque and Complex, which are one of the sighting points that should not be returned without seeing, yellow its visitors with its nobility and mystical air in its architecture.
