Odakule Business Center attracting attention with its floors higher than its peers between Galatasaray and Tünel in Beyoğlu district has been one of the most well-known meeting points of Istiklal Avenue for years, perhaps because of this feature.
This iconic structure rising above a sheltered walkway that connects Mesrutiyet Avenue and Istiklal Avenue passes into history as one of Turkey's first skyscraper construction.
Karlman Passage, which was the first big shopping center of Istanbul during the Ottoman period, was located in the place where Odakule is located now. The architectural project of the building, of which ground floor was designed as a passage with inspiration from this, belongs to Kaya Tecimen and Ali Taner. The tower was opened in 1976. It accommodates the management of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry while serving various office and shops in a 23-storey, 14,600 square meter closed area. Some of the floors were damaged in the building during two major fire disasters in 1991 and 2016, then they were revised and have taken its present form.
The building bearing the architectural features of its period among the historical structures that reflect old Beyoğlu spirit is added touches in a way not to be contrary to the texture. This structure built in a form that we can define as higher floor s and modern according to the classical structures on the same line, is gained a more elegant appearance instead of a bulky office building with its façade consisting of full-length glass and zig zag design.
