Architecture of Maltepe Central Mosque
Maltepe Central Mosque has a rectangular plan. It has a large dome on it, a medium-sized dome next to it and a triple dome arrangement with the smallest one. This architectural structure modernizes the classical dome concept of the Ottoman period and carries it to the present day. The mosque has four minarets; two minarets are positioned at the corners of the structure and the other two minarets are positioned adjacent to the structure. Each minaret has three balconies, and the minarets are one of the important elements that increase the magnificence of the mosque.
Interior and Courtyard
Maltepe Central Mosque has a large courtyard. After entering the courtyard, the last congregation place is reached. This area is covered with domes and the entrance to the mosque is made here. The interior of the mosque consists of two floors, the ground floor and the second floor. The main prayer area is supported by the second floor carried by large columns.
The interior of the mosque is quite spacious and plain. A simple and peaceful environment has been created by staying away from traditional Ottoman mosque ornaments. The interior, illuminated by large windows, also increases the use of natural light in the mosque.
Muezzin's Lodge, Minbar and Mihrab
The muezzin's lodge of the mosque is made of wood. The minbar, mihrab and sermon platform are designed in a very simple way and these areas reflect a functional and plain architectural approach. The minbar is one of the prominent elements of the mosque as the place where the sermon is read. The mihrab is the section where the imam leads the congregation in prayer and attracts attention with its functionality.
Lighting and Heating System
The mosque's lighting is provided by large chandeliers. These chandeliers give the interior a warm and peaceful atmosphere after the evening prayer. In the winter months, the heating system inside the mosque is provided by the underfloor heating method. In this way, a comfortable worship environment is provided, especially in the winter season.
Fountain and Ablution Areas
There is a fountain at the bottom of the mosque. Ablution areas in the fountain are kept wide and hot water is also provided. This area provides convenience for those who want to perform ablution in the mosque, especially in the winter months.
