In the early years of the Republic of Turkey's establishment, Karaköy Palas is considered one of the newest and most remarkable buildings built in 1920 and witnessed the city's recent history.
Although the construction of Karaköy Palace was completed in 1920, it started to be built in the second half of the 1910s. The asymmetrical design of the building, which was made by Giulio Mongeri, who was born and raised in Istanbul, is of a kind that will attract even symmetry patients with its aesthetic appearance.
So why is it asymmetrical? Let's explain…
When Karaköy Palas started to be built, it was allowed by more than one company. This factor, which significantly affects the façade layout, has brought about the emergence of exceptional work in architecture. Meanwhile, next to one of the building's windows, the signature of the architect, which resembles the final touch of an artistic painting, is dazzling.
Karaköy Palas, which is used as a branch of a private bank today, is among the sophisticated buildings that point to the First National Architecture Movement. The structure, which is the product of very meticulous work, is quite striking.
The building has more than one entrance. The intensive use of arches as architectural elements, the balcony on the left protruding out on the third floor, and the motifs are seen throughout the facade are among the other prominent details.
