Adalet Kasrı Tower (Tower Of Justice Build For Nobles)
26.02.2024 10:30
Justice Pavilion Tower, one of the leading landmarks in Edirne, is located in the center of the city.It is known that it was built by the 7th Ottoman Sultan Mehmet The Conqueror at the beginning of the Armoury Bridge(Cephanelik Köprüsü).Several possibilities exist regarding the origin of the name. The first of these is that it may have received this name because the people executed were lined up in front of it during its era, another is that the people's petitions on various issues may have been taken by the officers in front of it and handed over to the officers waiting at the top of the tower, so that it may have received the name ‘Justice’.
A vestige of the tower's original form is based on a photograph dated to the end of the 19th century. In the photograph, a cone is seen on the Tower of Justice. There was also a room at the top of the tower of this historic building, which is often the subject of old photographs. There was even a pool in the middle of the building.
The cone-shaped architectural element in question has not reached the present day in any way.One of the deeply damaged buildings in Edirne, which became an intense war zone at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the Justice Pavilion Tower, although it has undergone various repairs, is now in a different state than it originally was.
The elegance of the pavilion with the windows at the top of the tower built with solid cut stones is noteworthy. The Tower of Justice, which has a pleasant visual ambience for those visiting the city today, is also one of the most vivid examples of Edirne's historical memory.
