Akbaş Martyrdom

14.05.2024 19:21

Akbaş martyrdom is considered to be the first point of visit for those who came to Çanakkale via Istanbul. Martyrdom, which has an advantageous position in this sense, requires those arriving via Gallipoli towards Eceabat to make a journey of about 30 kilometres. The place where martyrdom is today is actually a busy port in the past. During the Communications period, this port was used as a resupply Center for Turkish troops and was seen as an important function especially in the supply and distribution of war supplies coming through Istanbul. In fact, at that time there was even a mobile hospital belonging to the division in the Akbaş area. This hospital used to function as a referral hospital in a sense. The soldiers were sent to Selimiye Barracks, where it was understood that the situation was quite severe. Those who were killed in the ships that were subjected to the attacks were buried in the original martyrdom located on Yalova village. Therefore, 459 symbolic tombstones are situated in Akbaş martyrdom today, but the mausoleum, which consists of the original graves, is on the road leading to the village directly opposite. In this region, which is quite large, a statue containing messages of peace also draws attention. There is also a memorial dedicated to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Gallipoli campaign. On the other hand, in the martyrdom there is an elegant relief-which is called relllef - in which the medical units are figurated. Some of the expressions used by Atatürk are given on these reliefs. The relief also includes the names of 754 martyrs in total. There is a mosque and a fountain in the lower part of Akbaş martyrdom. This area is always open to visitors. The last renovation work related to martyrdom took place in 2013. This place became the target of the Entente forces during the Çanakkale Wars. It is subject to numerous attacks from both sea and air. Akbaş martyrdom was built in 1945, almost a quarter of a century after the war ended, the Çanakkale could not be crossed and the state of the Republic of Turkey was established. Covering a large area of approximately 1000 square meters in total, this area gives all visitors the feeling of the day and the importance of the love of the homeland.
