One of the formulas for getting to know a city and its surrounding nature, cultural richness and history is Museums. At this point, those who want to know Izmir, which is one of the largest cities in Turkey, are very lucky. Because it's surrounded by museums.
Moreover, Izmir museums are not limited to the cultural axis of great civilizations such as Rome and the Ottomans, which have left profound traces in their thousands of years of history, but there is even an exhibition space about ecological life in this beautiful city.
The Natural History Museum is undoubtedly one of the most amazing museums in Izmir. And in most cities, there's nothing like it. For this reason, it is not easy to encounter this kind of museum in other cities for those who have traveled to Izmir or for city dwellers.
Thousands of objects can be seen in six galleries in the Natural History Museum located on Bornova campus of Ege University. Among these objects, there are fossils of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles. The butterfly species, which offer a riot of colour, are also quite striking.
One of the sine qua non of these stunning discoveries is a human skeleton dating back 2,000 years. This man, who lived in Uşak during the Roman rule, is undoubtedly one of the oldest natives of the ancient city of Izmir.
Also, not only are there no signs of animal presence in the region, the museum is full of surprises, for example, mineral samples from Izmir and its surroundings, and even a 10-thousand-year-old human footprint can be closely examined.
