St Simon Monastery
St Simon Monastery
Hatay, located in the southern part of Turkey on the border with Syria, is a valuable city for the Christian faith. St Simon Monastery, one of the religious structures built in the region that has remained important throughout history, is among the first monasteries in Anatolia. Built in the 6th century, close to samandağ district, the building is located on a high hill, far from the settlements at the time. Both security and the search for seclusion of members of the religion are thought to be effective in highlighting these features.
Religious education is the foundation of the monastery founded by St. Simon, a member of the Antioch sect. Sections such as churches and cisterns can be seen within the scope of the monastery. The vane around the monastery also add a different meaning to the ambience. St Simon's Monastery, which is also a different route for photography enthusiasts, is just one of hatay's historical treasures.
The monastery, which is a valuable treasure in terms of faith tourism, is also attractive with nature and its view.
