In this context, Nihal Atakas Mosque, which was inaugurated with, a large-participation, state ceremony held in recent years, is one of the landmarks of Iskenderun. The mosque, which was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was built in a large area generated by filling the coastline in Iskenderun, a port city. Nihal Atakaş Mosque, which has a rock base, is a very modern building with deep traces from seljuk architectural tradition. The mosque, built on an area of 8 thousand square meters, was built in cooperation with businessman Recep Atakas and Iskenderun Municipality. Businessman's wife Nihal Atakas's name is given to the mosque stands out with capacity. The construction of the religious structure, in which 2,000 people could pray at the same time, took three years with its architectural features.
