The second-longest city after Istanbul, Antakya has Castle, the longest wall which is the symbol of Hatay and is one of the most important structures in the world, dates back to 300 BC. Located in the middle of mesopotamia, known as "Milk and honey flowing land", which is the first known life in the world and means "the country between the two rivers", Hatay has thousands of years of history. The castle and walls of the city, the castle and the walls which has hosted numerous cultures and civilizations, are among the most valuable works not only in Turkey but also in the world. The fortifications and walls of Antioch were built by General Seleucos I. Nikator, one of the most important men of King Alexander the Great of Macedonia, in 300 a.m. Justianus, the Byzantine Emperor of Byzantine, added to the castle used by many civilizations in the pages of history in the 6th century. Antakya Castle and its walls, which have managed to come to this day with its rich culture stretching from Anatolian Seljuks to Romans, Ottoman to Byzantine, have five gates. These are the Iron Gate to the east, the Aleppo Gate to the north, the Bridge Gate to the west, the Damascus Gate to the south and the Dog Gate in the northwest.
