In Ankara, you can experience not only cultural and historical sites but also many natural beauties. Although it does not have a coastline like in the other two major cities, at least the lakes comprehend a bit of this deficiency. For this reason, especially in the summer months, the local people show a great interest in the lakes in Ankara. The Blue Lake, considered to be one of the city's popular sightseeing stops, is located approximately 13 kilometers from the center. Bayındır Dam, located in the area just above Samsun road, covers an area of 2,400 square meters. Within this area,it is surrounded by quite large trees.
The reason why it is called Blue Lake is that the water in Bayındır Dam has a bluish color. Blue Lake is located in the eastern part of the city as the location. Local people visit this place to have a family picnic, especially on weekends during the summer months. Until 2005, the lake and its environs were not used for this purpose; however, extensive regulatory work in the region that year created this result. Blue Lake is now considered as a great resting place. The lake is located in Mamak District boundaries and is close to the city center. You can easily use the public transport which will take you to Mamak District. Offering a natural lake atmosphere, the area is quite calm and peaceful.
Currently, except from two separate business buildings in and around Blue Lake, 15 security huts outside are located. It also operates six toilets. The green area deemed suitable for picnicking is 245 acres in total. Ready-made tables, gazebos and barbecue areas will provide you with great convenience when picnicking.
