Akdamar Memorial Museum
Akdamar Memorial Museum
We are looking at one of the finest examples of Vaspurakan architecture. Akdamar Memorial Museum is actually an old church.
Gagik Ardsruni, King of Armenian Vaspurakan Ist, wants to build a church on the second largest island of Lake Van. This church, which was designed by Monk Manuel, was completed in 921 B.C. and used as both a palace and a church.
The Armenian Vaspurakan Kingdom, which ruled under the Abbasids between 908-1021, leaves many works to the present day with both its architecture and culture. This museum interacts with many different civilizations due to its architecture, cultural diversity and location; it is of great importance in terms of the history of world architecture. Akdamar Memorial Museum preserves all its splendor today with its decorations and architecture.
The monumental museum, which is referred to as the 'Hripsime Type' in Armenian architecture; with It’s plan, which resembles a four-leaf clover, continues to welcome visitors with corner niches and embossing embroidery. At the same time, christianity is depicted as important names in terms of religion. These include Armenian nobles, geometric motifs, palace life and excerpts from everyday life. Restored by the Ministry of Culture in 2005, the church-palace was immediately opened to visitors as a memorial museum.
