The historical city on the Black Sea coast is located in Ortahisar district of Trabzon, Ottoman heirloom Fatih Mosque. Approximately 8 years after the conquest of Istanbul, it was built on the basis of converting an existing church into a mosque immediately after Trabzon was included in the Ottoman borders. Around the mosque built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, it is mentioned that there is a complex with buildings such as madrasah, primary school, imaret. However, the buildings in question have not survived. Fatih Mosque, on the other hand, continues to host its community and visitors as it has been for centuries. The mosque stands out with its plain appearance. In this respect, it is almost identical to the neighborhood where it is located. It does not have a high interior and large courtyard. When you step through the outer door that opens to a cobblestone road, you step into it in a short time. It is seen that the section called the pulpit, where the Imam read the Friday sermon, was made of walnut wood with fine craftsmanship. The altar in front of the congregation, where prayers are performed, draws attention with its ornaments. The single-balcony minaret of the building, which has many inscriptions, rises from an interesting base adjacent to the mosque. Finally, Fatih Mosque, which has been improved with the restoration works completed in 2018, is open to both visits and worship today.
