Hagia Sophia Museum is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Trabzon. It's also a rich structure that sheds light on the ancient history of the city. The building, which was converted from church to mosque after the conquest of the Ottoman Empire, was opened to visitors after centuries of function in different ways, including a hospital, and was completed in 1962.
The late Byzantine church with square-cross plan stands out with its marble columns, retangled entrances and tiled roof with different heights, in addition to its characteristic architectural elements.
