15.03.2024 19:59
The Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque, located very close to Balıklıgöl, is one of the symbol points of the region in the center of Sanliurfa, one of the historical cities in southeastern Turkey. The mosque, which is now open for worship, is based on the conversion of a cathedral built in 457 into a mosque in the 19th century during the Ottoman Empire. The historic building, which was devastated for most of the 20th century, enliven again after repair work completed in 1993.
Offering a complementary function for the skyline of the city today, Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque stands out with its spacious and bright interior. Behind this feature is large windows surrounded by stunning decorations.
Some figures and columns from the time it was a church can be seen, and the name of the building is due to the use of Selahaddin Eyyubi as a mosque for a while. After being converted, the mosque was named after the famous ruler, who lived in 1138-1193 and was the founder of the Eyyubi dynasty.
Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque, where both culture and art and history enthusiasts are attracted today, is among the important sighting locations of Şanlıurfa.
