Şanlıurfa Archaeological and Mosaic Museum, which exhibits artifacts unearthed from the oldest temple in history, has a very large collection of the oldest known real sculpture.
Şanlıurfa Archaeological Museum, which moved to its modern building in the wide area it uses today in 2015, has been in service since 1965. The artifacts unearthed from and around the city, which has traced countless civilizations and their deep-rooted cultures in thousands of years' history, are important worldwide in terms of 'Neolithic Period'. The museum, where the oldest temple in history exhibits the artifacts found in excavations in Göbeklitepe,has great grandeur as if qualifies its environment surrounded by mounds, ruins and ancient settlements.
The works which removed from Harran and its surrounding, between 3.000 BC and 15 DC centuries, forms the touchstone of Şanlıurfa Archaeological and Mosaic Museum, the only museum complex of 30 thousand square meters. The huge museum, which has 33 animation areas and 14 main exhibition halls, is also a favorite of history enthusiasts for its chronologically sorted works in the archeopark area.
The museum draws attention with its neolithic period, which spans between 8,000 and 4500 bc, with the oldest known real sculpture of the history of civilization with the work 'Man of Balıklı Göl'. Thousands of different works, from almost every history, from the Hellenistic period to the Roman and Byzantine periods, the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and the Islamic period to the Catholic period, are exhibited here also hold the title of Turkey's largest museum.
