The Gloomy Church, one of the oldest campuses in Nevşehir, dazzles its glory, which has defiantly survived 5,000 years of history.
The Gloomy Church is located inside the Göreme Open Air Museum. The church is one of the oldest structures in the complex, located in the monastery complex, led by The Greek Bishop St. Basileios, who is of great importance to Christians and was even built in his name.
Cappadocia's history dates back to hittite civilization, but christians are the longest-term guests of the region. The wine cellars, chapels, churches and underground cities designed with handcraft to the city's easily carved tuff rocks still retain their first-day glory today. One of the most magnificent works of the Goreme Open Air Museum, the Groomy Church dazzles with its frescoes that have managed to reach this day almost intact.
Perhaps the most mystical and most mysterious structures of the city, the Gloomy Church, leaves a trace consonant with it’s name, on the visitors. The paints on the walls depicting the stories set in the Bible and the Torah give, those who see, the impression that they have embarked on a journey full of religious teachings. The Gloomy Church at goreme Open Air Museum, the city's most visited place, is flooded with thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.
