Muğla, one of Turkey's cities with thousands of years of history on the Aegean coast, is a unique treasure in terms of cultural excursions. Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology is one of the highlights in this context.
The museum, which has a large collection of finds, excavations, donations and purchases, was founded in 1964 within Bodrum Castle, one of the city's landmarks. It is among the most important museums on a global scale within the concept of Underwater Archaeology.
Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum, where thousands of historical artifacts can be seen in 14 separate exhibition halls, stands out for its large collection of Amphora, a kind of Greek pottery. This important museum in Bodrum is home to a large section of amphorae in the area covering the eastern Mediterranean.
On the other hand, the port of Sparrow, Devil Creek and Yassıada shipwrecks can also be examined. The glass shipwreck Hall at Sparrow Harbour contains the remains of the world's oldest shipwreck dated to 1025, of which 3 tons of glassware were extracted. This relic is striking because it exhibits the dimensions of glassmaking, which is known to have started in Anatolia at very ancient times. By the way, the origin of the first glass beads is noted that it extends to 3 thousand BC.
Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum, which is visited by many people every year and is famous for its Islamic glass collection, is ideal for observing the grandeur from the depths of the sea.
