Pompeiopolis Ancient City

In Anatolia, an important settlement throughout history centuries of Roman domination, is remarkable. This ancient empire, which built cities all over its side, has built Kastamonu and its surroundings as an important center. In this context, the ancient city of Pompeiopolis, which is about an hour's drive from today's city center at 64 BC, is of great importance. This historic region, dubbed 'Pompeiopolis', which means 'City of Pompeius', referring to the city state founded by Roman leader Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus. In the 6th century, Christianity became an important region for religion. A significant part of the artifacts excavated in the ancient city are on display at the Kastamonu Archaeological Museum. Architectural parts can be seen in The District of Taşköprü. Other important Roman settlements in Anatolia include columns, mosaics, rock tombs and various depictions during the visit to the Ancient City of Pompeiopolis, which stands out for its resemblance to Ephesus and Zeugma. Meanwhile, archaeological excavations are reportedly continuing. Located in the northern part of Kastamonu, the ancient city lies on the slopes of Küre and Ilgaz Mountain.
