The Tomb of Zübeyde Hanım, mother of the founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, can be visited in the Karsiyaka District of Izmir. Zübeyde Hanım, who was born in 1857 in the city of Thessaloniki on the borders of present-day Greece, died in 1923 in Izmir at the age of 66. Located in a park on the street of the same name, the tomb has a very high spiritual importance, and is in the form of a monument that was designated by Atatürk himself with a photograph of Zübeyde Hanım. Zübeyde Hanım's tomb, built in 1940, is a first-degree site. In this respect, the arrangement of the mosque next to it, the expansion of the area around the tomb, the provision of lighting and the maintenance of the official ceremonial place were carried out. In addition, tea garden and playgrounds were built with the aim of more intensive families to come. The spiritual area, which includes security personnel, is visited every day of the year by a large number of local and foreign tourists. On the anniversaries of Zübeyde Hanım's death on 14 January, a large number of citizens from all over the city, the prefect, the mayor, etc. the commemoration ceremony is held with the participation of names and NGOs.
