Ege University, home to one of the leading Botanical Gardens in Turkey, is also a full oxygen tank for the city of Izmir. Ege University Botanical Garden, founded in 1962 as a part of the Faculty of Science of the University, is an ecological richness.
Ege University Botanical Garden, which contains a rich plant presence, is among the city's attractions. There are about 3 thousand different plant species in the hidden garden of the Aegean. In the garden, which is based on 48 thousand 750 m2 area, pools, show gardens, orchards, such as sections must be visited. The diversity offered by greenhouses, where more than 100 species of cactus, tropical trees and various scrub plants are sorted, is also striking.
The Botanical Garden, noted for its greenhouses, is famous for its candle flowers of The Hoya type. More than 150 varieties of these sophisticated flowers, with as many as 650 species on a global scale, can be seen at the Ege University Botanical Garden.
Natural and cultured plants can be studied at the University's Botanical Garden, which offers a wide variety of plants. Tropical and subtropical plants are in the garden, which can be visited in separate sections, both indoors and outdoors, while shrub and Grass-type plants are in the outside. The section called herbarium, where dried plants are exhibited, has two floors. Flowering species are present on the first floor and non-flowering species are present on the second floor.
