Ephesus Museum

Selçuk Ephesus Museum, one of the most comprehensive museums in Izmir, is located within the boundaries of Selçuk district as its name implies. The museum is visited by local and foreign tourists throughout the year due to the ancient city of Ephesus, although it is located at a point quite far from the city center. The museum covers a wide time scale dating back to the Ottomans, starting from the Archaic period. In this sense, there is considerable diversity among the works exhibited at the museum. Selcuk Ephesus Museum is also an active venue hosting various activities. This place presents a chronology largely related to the ancient city of Ephesus. The compartments in the museum, which are noted for its visitor capacity, are divided according to the location of the finds. Apart from all these private halls, different sculptures are placed in the garden section in accordance with the decor. Mills and traditional Turkish tents are also exhibited here. Apart from the statue of Artemis, the head of Socrates is shown among the most popular works of the Selcuk Ephesus Museum. Currently, there are 64 thousand works in total in the collection. The collection gradually expands as archaeological excavations continue actively. At the same time, many artifacts come to the museum through donations. In the Hall of the House finds some important requirements in everyday life attract attention. Many everyday materials, from cosmetic instruments to jewelry, musical finds to lighting tools, are exhibited here. A section of the museum is called the “Socrates room”. This place is organized within the scope of Ephesus hillside houses. The Ephesus Selcuk Museum expands its sections with the recent arrangement. Arasta(Ottoman Bazaar) and Hammam Section, Ayasuluk Library, Visually Impaired Museum are the new sections that add value to the museum. It is possible to visit the museum seven days a week.
