Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center

The Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, which was recently acquired by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, was met with great interest in Izmir, which stands out as a city of culture and art. The center, abbreviated as Aasac, is currently one of the most modern and largest cultural centers in Izmir. The first project of the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Cultural Center was created in 2000, but its construction was completed in 2008. The center, which welcomes art lovers with a grand opening, has the signature of architect Tevfik Tozkoparan. In the past, the site of the centre was used as a trolleybus garage. The fact that this place is also home to a wonderful story of transformation increases the respect for the place. The lifestyle and cultural tendencies of the people of Izmir are influential in the architectural process of the building. Covering a total area of 29,500 square meters, the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Cultural Center has a large hall for 1130 people. On the other hand, a separate hall with about 240 seats is used. All five exhibition halls provide great opportunities for artists who want to showcase their work from different disciplines. Especially the acoustic features of the center are remarkable. In fact, it is claimed to be one of the best salons in Turkey. The center, which has always been a successful host to the most important organizations in Izmir, is almost a saviour in international festivals. Its acoustic infrastructure is performed by the Arup company, which also has signatures at The Sydney Opera House. Apart from the great concerts at its opening, the Istanbul Modern exhibition received great acclaim from visitors. In later periods, activities of the Izmir Opera Ballet, Izmir State Symphony Orchestra or Izmir culture Sana and Education Foundation are held here. In addition, recently the preferred venue for Izmir Festival and European Jazz Festival is the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Cultural Center.
