Zulfaris Synagogue

Zülfaris Synagogue is a historically and culturally important structure located in the Galata district of Beyoğlu, Istanbul. Known to have existed in 1671, the current building was rebuilt on old foundations at the beginning of the 19th century. Zülfaris Synagogue, which has preserved its beauty with various restoration works in the past, has been used for different purposes over time.

Throughout its history, the synagogue was rebuilt in 1823, a marble Ehal was added in 1882, and it underwent significant repairs by the Kamondo family and the Galata Jewish Community in 1890 and 1904. The synagogue, which was allocated to the worship of Jews of Thracian origin in 1979, lost its function as a place of worship in 1985 due to the lack of congregation. In 1992, it was allocated to the 500th Year Foundation by the Neve Shalom Foundation to be used as the Turkish Jewish Museum and opened as a museum in 2001.
