Zühtü Paşa mosque is located on the famous Baghdad street of Kadıköy, one of the densely populated districts, close to the coast of İstanbul's Anatolian side. It was built in 1884 by Ahmet Zuhtü Pasha who was one of the leading statesmen during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II.
Zühtü Paşa mosque is a durable structure made of concrete and brick. An elegant inscription crowned by a marble pediment above the courtyard gate attracts attention. The interior of the mosque, entered by passing through its wide courtyard, is quite colorful. There is also an inscription on the entrance door. The wooden ceiling was used in the narthex, which is the section between the courtyard and the mosque. Besides the prayers and verses in the interior, geometric ornaments and decorations attract attention in many parts. It consists of the upper floor and the lower floor, which are climbed by stairs.
Kütahya tiles, hand-made decorations, and delicately drawn details are interesting. The dome of the rectangular planned mosque, which has a spacious and bright atmosphere, is also extremely flamboyant. On both sides of the mihrab are pilasters, that is, half columns. The cone-shaped pulpit and the preaching stand are made of wood. The Neo-Gothic influence seen on the windows is striking.
It is a highly sophisticated work of historical and artistic importance that adds value to the urban identity in general.
