Zeynep Sultan Mosque is located near the walls of Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) and Topkapı Palace in Sultanahmet, and it is one of the leading sightseeing destinations in Istanbul. Zeynep Sultan Mosque, one of the many historical buildings in the historical region, is shown among the unique examples of the Turkish baroque style with its elegance.
This mosque was built by Ottoman Sultan Ahmet III's daughter Zeynep Sultan, the mosque is square in shape and covered with a single dome. There is the narthex at one side between the mosque and the courtyard, and the square-shaped apsis on the other side.
Stone and bricks were used together in a structure which resembles to Byzantine churches because of its dome. The dome design indicates a rarely implemented style in Turkish mosques because its windows, which are located between the cornices that curl with wavy movements thereunder, are very different.
The interior of the mosque is quite bright because of the dome and the windows of the mosque. It is striking with its decorations, where blue color is mainly used. The ornate fountain adjacent to the mosque is also among the historical values recommended for sightseeing.
