Surp Bogos Church is one of the stunning attractions in Istanbul that invites travelers who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of history. It is located on the street in Sarıyer, one of the districts of the European side close to the shores of the Bosphorus. It is found among the ancient Armenian churches.
The date of its first construction is mentioned in the records as 1847. It was built by Bogos Amira Bilezikçiyan, who is known for his activity in the community and is shown among the leading Ottoman Armenians of the period. The original wooden structure was reconsidered after a while because it could not meet the need, it was demolished in 1882 and rebuilt in a more durable type, with cut stones. Along with the church, which opened for worship in 1885, a rectory house, wooden houses, and a school were built around it.
When the architectural details are examined, the structure entered from the east-west axis is divided into altars and niches. The section, which connects to the main space where the columns are noted, is sheared by a light arch and is for the choir. Here, hymns are recited in choral form. The Neogothic exterior design stands out.
The church, which is open to worship, is one of the most well-known religious buildings in Istanbul.
