Süleymaniye Square Fountain is located in the Sultanahmet borough, one of the cultural heritage sites filled with treasures to discover in the Fatih district of Istanbul. Also known as ’Hesap Çeşmesi' (Account Fountain), and it is said that the wages of the masters working in the construction of the Sultanahmet complex were distributed here.
Another rumor is about the third name of the fountain, the ‘Hesaplı Çeşme' (Affordable Fountain), and it is related to the Bozdoğan Aqueduct. It was said that one of the branches separated from the public structure dating from the Byzantine Empire delivered the water to the fountain, and all the water needs in the complex were provided from here in an ‘affordable’ way.
Rumors about architectural values in Istanbul are too great to be underestimated. Süleymaniye Square Fountain can also be shown among the Ottoman heirlooms that are the subject of various rumors at this point.
The cut corners and facades of the fountain that was built in 1792 attract attention. Apart from the edges of the flat columns, various details pointing to the baroque architectural style are highlighted. In general, it is a simple fountain, with an ornamental slab on a single facade. At the same time, the fountain, which contributes to the historical skyline of the region in which it is located, is one of the prominent water structures of the city.
