Istanbul's Şişli district is home to one of the few clock towers in the City left over from the Ottoman Empire era. Şişli Hamidiye Clock Tower, built in 1907, is located in the garden of today's Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Educational and Research Hospital, dated 1899 which was called Hamidiye Etfal previously. Hospital entrances and exits take place from either side of the clock tower.
Etfal means ‘little child’ in Ottoman, the clock tower in the garden of the public building, which was built as a hospital for children and today serves all age groups, carried integrity with a mosque where citizens prayed at the beginning of the 20th century.
Its dome-shaped roof, marble facade and the Tower section extended off by half-axis attract attention. In this way, a larger interior was obtained.
The clock tower, which has a height of approximately 20 meters, and is supported from the bottom and surrounded by a section called the balcony. It is recorded that the figures above the first hour on it light up at night and they were quite beautiful. The historic Şişli Hamidiye Clock Tower, which has recently been restored, is on the right at the entrance of Şişli Etfal, a busy hospital with its central location, welcoming those who come with more than 100 years of history.
