Silahi Mehmed Efendi mosque, famous for its minaret, is located on a narrow street in Eyüp, one of the districts on the European side of Istanbul. The mosque, which dates back to the period when the Ottoman Empire conquered Istanbul, was built by Mehmed Bey, the armorer of Fatih Sultan Mehmed.
In the mosque of Silahi Mehmed Efendi, the section of the hexagonal-shaped minaret, which was put up with stones and bricks, and resembling a balcony attracts attention. In Istanbul, the number of mosques with such minarets is less than 10.
It is also located to the right of the entrance door and adjacent to the courtyard wall. So it's a mosque with an independent minaret. Based on the fact that almost all of the minarets in the city are adjacent to the mosque, it also points to a different style in this aspect. Finally, the cone of its minaret also adds a separate visual to the mosque with its unique identity.
Silahi Mehmet Mosque, a small structure, has a quadrangular plan. The interior of the mosque, entered by passing through its small courtyard, has an extremely simple style with a few decorations. It has windows in the bottom and the top. In the opposite of the structure, Zal Mahmut Paşa Mosque is located, and next to it there is the tomb of Silahi Mehmed Bey.
