Sarı Saltuk Shrine

The Shrine of Sarı Saltuk, which has an important place in Islamic history, is located on a street in Sarıyer, one of the districts of Istanbul close to the Bosphorus, that is away from the city atmosphere and in a quiet destination in Rumelifeneri.
At the entrance of this destination there is Sarı Saltuk Dede Fountain. His cist is accomodated within a modest-sized structure with a wooden covered wall and roof. Various verses stand out on the walls. In general, it is a place where the spiritual atmosphere is intense and where there are no architectural details. The floor is covered with carpet. At the entrance, the shoes are taken off and usually prayed in front of the cist by sitting on heels.
Sarı Saltuk is an important person who is mentioned in various sources as he has been a holy person or a combatant and he lived in the 13th century. It is known that he was a great clergyman who was taken under the protection of Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli. Although he was a person whose mythological identity stood out, he contributed to the transformation of Anatolia into a Turkish and Muslim homeland. The most important work written about him was made written by Cem Sultan who was one of the brothers of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II, and called Saltukname.
The shrine which is told that in ancient times, fishermen came and prayed before sailing according to rumors and this place was recorded as a healing gate for asthma patients, is also among the most visited points of the city today.
