Istanbul's "most famous island" Büyükada; besides its luxurious cafes, ice cream shops, indescribable mansions in every corner and its legendary sunset view was also some kind of muse for Turkish author Reşat Nuri Güntekin.
Reşat Nuri Güntekin, who was a congressman for a term; and had written stories, novels and plays bought his house in 1937 and lived in it for many years. In addition, after his death in 1956 due to lung cancer, his wife stayed alone in this house for many years.
The House of Reşat Nuri Güntekin on Yılmaz Türk Street was a lovely three-story mansion in which the author completed eight novels, including the Wren or Çalıkuşu in its original name. The wooden-roofed masonry house, where his daughter Ela lived for many years, had not been turned into a museum and was visible from the outside.
It was also one of the most famous houses of Büyükada with its pink painted door and window arches. The House of Reşat Nuri Güntekin, which was destroyed in two hours after the fire in the first days of 2020, has a sad appearance today.
