Molla Lütfi Shrine

The Molla Lütfi Shrine on Defterdar Street in Istanbul's Eyüpsultan district was unearthed by chance during road work in the area in 1987.
Molla Lütfi who was born in Tokat, received his first education from his father, who was a great scholar at the time. He then came to Istanbul and was took lessons from Hoca Sinan Paşa, one of the leading scientists and clergy of the period during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Sultan Bayezid II. Then, through the efforts and direction of Hoca Sinan Paşa, he attended the mathematics lessons of Ali Kuşçu, who is one of the greatest astronomers and mathematicians raised in this land.
After Hoca Sinan Paşa was promoted to the position of vizier in 1470, he was appointed by Fatih Sultan Mehmet at the Palace Library on the advice of the Hoca Sinan Paşa. Molla Lütfi, who had many works in the fields of religion, philosophy, science, and literature, was executed for defying the Qur'an. Although Molla Lutfi's students argued that this decision was a misunderstanding, they could not convince anyone.
From the time that the shrine of Molla Lütfi with surrounding walls with an open-top, his shrine received a lot of attention from the side of the scholars of religion, philosophy, science, and literature and has survived intact to the present day.
