Among the magnificent inns, a caravanserai that is waiting to be discovered, still standing against the fires and earthquakes it has seen, and is in a corner, draws our attention: Kuveloğlu Han.
Kuveloğlu Han, one of the last Ottoman inns, about which there is a limited number of documents, is thought to have been built as a hotel by a French architect in the Kantarcılar area of Eminönü Küçükpazar district in the late 19th century. The structure, which has defied the years and is located in the busy commercial area of the city, is a two-phase caravanserai structure added to each other. It is rumored that in the old days, caravaners who entered mostly from Edirnekapı would do their shopping in Mahmutpaşa and then stay in this inn. The plan plane of the inn, which has a history of exactly 208 years, is shaped similarly to classical Ottoman courtyard inns and carries neo-classical elements in its façade layout.
This building, which is quite resistant to earthquakes and fires, has survived to the present day with its original qualities except for partial deterioration and the damage it has received has been at a very minimum level. The building, which is an example of the conditions of use, materials and construction techniques of its period, has fire-resistant materials used in its walls and a glass roof. Kuveloğlu Inn, which is used today as an inn where warehouses and workshops are concentrated, has managed to preserve its original state to a large extent.
