Kamondo Stairs

The Kamondo Stairs is an uncommon destination in Istanbul. It is between Bankalar Street, which is parallel to each other near the Golden Horn in the Beyoğlu district of the city, and Banker Street, which was named after the dense settlement of foreigners who lent to the state in the Ottoman Empire. It makes you think that so many merchants and bankers stepped into these steps in the past.
As another location-based detail, it is located on Bereketzade Medresesi Sokak in the Karaköy district. The Ottoman-Italian Jew Abraham Salomon Kamondo built it in the 1870s. In the past, today's Banker Street was also known as Kamondo Street.
The historical stairs, which are still in use today with the surname of Abraham Salomon Kamondo, a name with a powerful influence and recognition in the region, carry striking architectural details inspired by the art-nouveau movement. Stairs attract attention to their design. Obviously, there is an exciting emotion story at this point. Kamondo has the stairs built between his grandchildren's house and their school and asks his architect for a two-piece design in which they can stand somewhere without rolling too much in case of a fall. The architect made it as he wishes, so some kind of precaution is taken.
Stairs, which reflect their historical identity very well, are among the indispensables for architecture enthusiasts and social media photographers.
