Fire Department Museum

Fire Department Museum of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is a comprehensive museum that sheds light on the history of the fire brigade established in the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century for fighting against fires. In the museum, located in Yildiz Neighborhood in Besiktas district of Istanbul, many objects, materials, and tools from about 400 years ago are exhibited.

In the Fire Department Museum, which can be visited free of charge, the Pump with Pergola dated 1714, the pumps with cars and the steam pumps in the following years stand out. In addition, quite characteristic equipment can be seen, from leather buckets to fabric cisterns.

There are many animations in the museum, where extremely interesting objects are generally displayed hanging on the walls. The clothing worn by firefighters responsible for small areas, along with fireman's axes and various equipment that they use, are among the must-see.

The paintings in the museum, which can be visited in a short time and have a systematic and modern operation, point to more recent dates. The museum, where photographs of some fires intervened by the Istanbul Fire Department are exhibited, can be visited between 09.00-16.00 every weekday.
