The Fourth Vakıf Han is also one of the important works that Kemaleddin Bey brought to these lands. Being close to Topkapı Palace and Babıali, sea transportation with the pier, and the arrival of the Sirkeci Train Station and the railway in this region made Eminönü a much more special place at that time.
The Fourth Vakıf Han is also located right in this area, at the intersection of Mimar Kemaleddin and Hamidiye streets, designed in 1911, and its construction began in 1912. However, due to the Balkan War that started in 1912 and World War I that started in 1914, the construction of the building remained unfinished.
During the years when Istanbul was occupied, the building, only the outer part of which was completed, was used as a headquarters by the French under the name of “Caserne Victor”. The construction of the building, which was interrupted due to the war, was completed in 1926 with the establishment of the Republic.
The building, which was planned to be used as a courthouse, was vacated between 1990-2000, but later became a neglected structure due to lack of attention. After undergoing restoration, it was rented to private businesses by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2005.
The Fourth Vakıf Han has been a witness to history in the liveliest part of Istanbul for over a century, and continues to serve Istanbulites.
