Büyükçekmece Caravanserai, which is located within the borders of Büyükçekmece in İstanbul and known as Kurşunlu Han, is visited by many local and foreign tourists every day due to its very central location. The construction of Kurşunlu Han, known as one of the most striking works of Mimar Sinan and commissioned by Süleyman the Magnificent, dates back to 1566.
Kurşunlu Han, which has a total length of 48 meters and a width of 22.3 meters, was built entirely of face stone. In fact, when it was first built, it was named Kurşunlu Han because almost the entire roof was covered with lead. Kurşunlu Han, standing out among the 16th century Ottoman architectures which was the most popular accommodation located at the exit point to Europe from İstanbul since it was on the Asian and European trade routes at that time, underwent a major restoration between 1985 and 1987. In Kurşunlu Han, where events such as kermess, iftar and sahur banquets were organized, especially during the month of Ramadan, cultural and artistic events and organizations were also held from time to time.
Kurşunlu Han, right across of which Süleyman the Magnificent Fountain and Sokullu Mehmet Pasha Mosque can also be visited, attracts attention with its central location. Restoration works of Kurşunlu Han, considered among the most spectacular caravanserais built by Mimar Sinan, were carried out from time to time in the past. The inn with a rectangular plan, is also illuminated by the windows on the south facade. It is possible to see the remains of the place on both sides of the entrance of Kurşunlu Han, where the side facades are insulated.
