The History of Beşiktaş Pier

The pier dates back to 1913, commissioned by Şirket-i Hayriye and designed by architect Ali Talat Bey. The pier has undergone various restorations over the years. Built in the First National Architectural style, it saw extensive renovations in 1941, 1948, and 1970. During the 1970 restoration, domes were replaced with a gabled roof, and in 1979, part of the upper floor was enclosed with glass partitions.

The two-story building's façade facing the sea features intricate craftsmanship. A tile panel at the entrance displays "Beşiktaş İskelesi" in Kufic script, along with other tiles indicating the construction date. Stone reliefs and tile panels on the window arches enhance the exterior, while plaster muqarnas sequences and decorative motifs adorn the interior.

Located on the upper floor of Beşiktaş Pier, the İBB Beşiktaş Pier Library offers an ideal environment for reading or studying with a sea view. The library provides a peaceful setting and a rich book collection and is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00.
