Tomb of Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa (Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha)

One of the most valuable features of Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha Tomb, which is located within the borders of Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, is the fact that it was built by Sinan the Architect.

The sarcophagus in the tomb having a single dome, octagonal and upside-down windows, belongs to Ottoman Empire Admiral Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha. The tomb, which was built between 1541 and 1542 five years before the death of Barbaros Pasha that is one of the most well-known names in the maritime history of the Ottoman Empire, represents the Ottoman architectural style in general terms.

The biggest question mark about the Tomb of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, who represents the traces of 16^th century classical Ottoman architecture, is the fact that it was built five years ago, not after the death of Pasha. The tomb, of which external wall built with cut limestone impresses, has an octagonal plan. The frame of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Tomb covered with relieving dome, quickens the facade with a cornice.

According to the inscription on the tomb of the famous sailor and chief admiral Barbaros Pasha, the exterior of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Tomb, which was built in 948 of the hegira, in other words in 1541-1542, is plain while the interior is much more decorated. Decorations of the tomb, where the upper floor windows are caged, are just wonderful. Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Tomb, which was built close to the mansion where Barbaros Pasha spent his last years, attracts the most attention with its large graveyard.

It is possible to say that the lead-coated portico and columns enliven the tomb with all its glory. The windows in all parts except for the entrance are lancet and rectangular jambs. In addition to this, the windows with box grab rails added movement to the relatively plain-looking exterior wall.
