Baba Cafer Mausoleum

Baba Cafer Mausoleum, which is located in the historical building known as Zindan Han or Baba Cafer Tower, is a mausoleum built in the name of Seyyid Baba Cafer, who defended the rights of Muslims, could not remain silent for the persecution against them and was thrown into the dungeon. Baba Cafer Tomb, which is one of the first places that comes to mind when we say Eminönü, arouses great curiosity mostly with its story.
The mausoleum located in Zindan Inn in Zindankapı is located within the borders of Eminönü district of Istanbul belongs to Seyyid Cafer known as Baba Cafer among the people. Its exact construction date is not known and this structure also has an excellent location adjacent to the Golden Horn towers. Baba Cafer Mausoleum having a rectangular plan in general terms is covered with a barrel vault and the floor is also built of wood.
There is also water well in the inner side of Baba Cafer mausoleum, which can be passed through the narrow iron door of Zindan Inn. The mausoleum illuminated by five small loopholes was comprehensively restored during the period of Sultan Mahmut II.
There are sarcophagus of Zindancı Ali and Baba Cafer in the mausoleum, where there are two separate inscriptions, one behind the famous iron door and the other on the street door. Baba Cafer mausoleum is managed by Istanbul Directorate of Mausoleums and it is possible to visit mausoleum at certain hours during the day without paying any fee.
