Agios Nikolaos Greek Orthodox Church is located in Yeniköy Hamit Vehbi street of Sarıyer district, on the European side of Istanbul. The church, which was built in 1838 in Yeniköy, which is one of the rare districts with five churches on the European side, is located on a hill overlooking the Bosphorus.
Neighborhoods in Yeniköy district were referred to with church names in previous centuries, these names were usually Aya Yorgi, Aya Nikola or Panayia.
The platform where the Ayios Nikolaos Greek Orthodox Church is located can be reached by climbing a steep staircase from Yeniköy main street. Also, entrance can be provided from Sait Halim Pasa Street behind the church.
The bell tower of the building is reached by the stairs in the western part of the courtyard of the church. This bell tower sits on a square plinth. On the other hand, the building has a very nice harmony with the whole.
Agios Nikolaos Greek Orthodox Church is essentially a three-aisled basilica on an east and west axis. As a roof, it has a double pitched, hipped roof. The naves in the main part of the church, which is plain and plain on the outside, are separated from each other by five columns. A series of arches connecting these columns provides both architectural and visual integrity. In addition, the column base of the church, whose columns are placed on a high square base, is in the form of a bracelet. Finally, it should be noted that the eye-catching decorations in the Agios Nikolaos Greek Orthodox Church reflect the careful selection of eclecticism.
