Ataturk Olympic Stadium, which got its name from Turkey's first President Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, has the characteristic of Turkey's largest stadium as capacity. The stadium located within the borders of Başakşehir district of Istanbul covers an area of 584 hectares in İkitelli district. Atatürk Olympic Stadium’s construction began in 1999 and completed three years later and opened for service in 2002.

The total spectator capacity of Atatürk Olympic Stadium is 75.145 and world athletics championships, especially international football championships may be played at Atatürk Olympic Stadium. The stadium, which is a public facility, is affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and has an open car park with a capacity of 18 thousand 900 vehicles and a closed car park with a capacity of 850 vehicles.

Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which has a meeting room for approximately 200 people, has been in service since 2002. In addition to the football field with ground-type grass, two open and closed tribunes, Atatürk Olympic Stadium has another field and other areas also consist of the athletics track and gymnastics hall.

Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which was opened with Galatasaray-Olympiakos match on 31 July 2002, cost about TL 130 million. The architects of the stadium having two football fields with hybrid grass are Aymeric Zublena and Michel Macari, who designed Stade de France where 1998 World Cup was held. The sound systems of Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which keeps up with the times with the latest technological products, have a homogeneous organization, and 1400 lux lighting has been provided at every point. There is also an amphitheater with a capacity of 300 spectators inside the trade and service center, which spreads an area of 42,200 square meters.
