Anadolu Kavağı, which is one of the quietest and cutest places on the Bosphorus with its beautiful nature and greenery, is a touristic fishing town located on the northern shore of the Bosphorus.
Although there is no clear information in written sources, it is said that Anadolu Kavağı takes its name from the legendary poplar fig, and according to another view, it is called this name because large and old trees used to be called poplars.
The village, which was located within the military zone until 1946 and where population control was carried out when entering the village, today's most important source of income can be considered tourism and fishing. Yoros Castle, which is located at the top of the neighborhood and overlooks the connection point of the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea, was built to control the entrances and exits to the Bosphorus and is one of the most important touristic places in the village. In addition, the 18th century Cevriye Hatun Fountain in the village square and the Midilli Ali Reis Mosque dating back to 1593 are among the other structures worth seeing.
Evliya Çelebi, who visited Anadolu Kavağı, the last pier of the Bosphorus before entering the Black Sea, said, “It is a Muslim town from beginning to end. In its center, it has around 800 houses, seven mosques, a bathhouse, around 200 shops, bachelor houses, a primary school and a fountain. Its people are sailors, vineyard growers and merchants.”
